About National Response Center (USCG) Spill Reports

Reported spill and release incidents from the U.S. Coast Guard National Response Center, the federal hotline anyone calls to report a release. It answers what a county saw in a calendar year, what one report says in full, and what the mapped subset around a coordinate looks like. This is the environmental screening layer the EPA facility and enforcement sources do not cover, because it records releases from unregulated callers, trucks, rail, vessels, and neighboring property. Every record is an initial, unverified caller report. It is never a confirmed release, carries no cleanup, remediation, or enforcement status of any kind, and names only the suspected responsible company as the call taker recorded it. Counts are counts of reports rather than of confirmed releases or volumes, so two callers describing one event produce two reports. Only a minority of reports carry coordinates, and coverage is far worse onshore than offshore, so a county search sees reports a radius search physically cannot. Zero is a citable zero for that county and that calendar year, not a finding about a parcel, and none of this is a Phase I environmental site assessment. This is the Coast Guard spill hotline, not the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
